What Is BECK?
Originally aired in 2004, BECK is a beloved music anime adapted from the manga by Harold Sakuishi. The story follows Yukio “Koyuki” Tanaka, a regular middle schooler with no clear goals or talents. Everything changes when he saves an odd-looking dog and meets Ryusuke, an enigmatic guitarist who introduces him to the power of rock music.
Through music, Koyuki finds confidence, forms unexpected friendships, and gradually becomes the vocalist of the band “BECK.” The series portrays the struggles of forming a band, clashing personalities, and the pursuit of dreams with a grounded, emotional tone. It’s widely regarded as a genre-defining work that continues to inspire fans of both anime and music alike.
