Harajuku is getting a fresh dose of “cute… but slightly unsettling.” Creator Nanako Yoshida(吉田南ナ子) is bringing her solo exhibition “LOVER” to tHE GALLERY HARAJUKU, turning the feeling of “liking” into paintings that mix rubber-duck charm, anime-like girls, and a dark edge that lingers. 🐤🖤
“LOVER” Turns ‘Favorite Feelings’ Into Paint
“LOVER” builds on the world Yoshida introduced in her previous show “empty smile,” but this time the core keyword is simple: love as in the things you’re drawn to—obsessions, comfort objects, memories, and that weird warmth you can’t fully explain. The result is a show that feels personal without turning into a diary entry.
Cute Meets a Dark Edge: Yoshida’s Signature Mood
If you’ve seen Yoshida online, you already know her style can be sweet at first glance. What hits harder in a gallery is the balance: adorable faces and soft colors sharing the same space with a quiet, shadowy tension. It’s the kind of contrast that makes you take one step closer—then pause.

Rubber Ducks, Girls, and Memory—Motifs That Stick
The exhibition spotlights Yoshida’s recurring motifs, especially the rubber duck, painted with a surprisingly realistic touch, alongside anime-like girl figures. That mash-up creates a push-and-pull: everyday bath-time innocence meets a symbolic, almost coded emotional world.
From Screens to Canvas: Acrylic Texture and Physical Impact
Part of the thrill is seeing how Yoshida’s work changes when it becomes acrylic on canvas. The paint texture and layered color make the surface feel alive—something you can’t fully catch on a phone screen.
Dates, Hours, and the Opening Reception in Harajuku
“LOVER” runs Dec 25, 2025 – Jan 12, 2026, open 11:00–19:00, with a year-end closure Dec 29 – Jan 6. There’s also an opening reception on Dec 25, 18:00–20:00.
