Japan’s culture of stocking up for earthquakes just got an Evangelion twist. Wakayama-based umeboshi maker Nagaoka Shokuhin is launching NERV-branded emergency rice and umeboshi sets on December 21, 2025, officially tied to the anime series. Developed under the Tokumu Kikan NERV Designated Emergency Stockpile Plan(特務機関NERV指定防災備蓄品計画), these rations aim to be both fandom-friendly collectibles and genuinely practical supplies for emergencies.
Evangelion turns emergency rice and umeboshi into NERV gear
The new collaboration centers on two products: “NERV Shitei Donna Tokimo Ume to Gohan” and “NERV Shitei Donna Tokimo 99 Umeboshi.” Both are presented as supplies designated and distributed by NERV to the citizens of Tokyo-3, with packaging that echoes the stark typography and symbols seen in the Evangelion series. The idea is to turn your pantry shelf into something that could plausibly sit in a NERV storeroom, without sacrificing real-world function as emergency food.
NERV-branded ume and rice built for real disaster readiness
“NERV Shitei Donna Tokimo Ume to Gohan” uses alpha rice made with 100% Wakayama-grown rice and one whole Kishu Nanko ume in each can. Add water and wait about 60 minutes, or use hot water for roughly 15–20 minutes, and you get a ready-to-eat rice and umeboshi meal. Each can includes a folding spoon and a clear lid, and the product keeps for five years from manufacture. No preservatives, chemical seasonings, colorings or additives are used.
“Donna Tokimo 99 Umeboshi” offers 99 grams of Kishu Nanko umeboshi with a high 19% salt content and plenty of citric acid, designed to help with salt replacement and fatigue recovery under harsh conditions. Both items are meant to work as serious stockpile options rather than simple novelty tie-ins.

Anime fandom meets everyday earthquake preparedness in Japan
Japan lives with frequent earthquakes, typhoons and floods, so keeping several days of food and water at home is widely recommended. The “NERV Disaster Prevention” app already delivers real-time hazard alerts with an Evangelion-inspired interface, and the new stockpile line extends that concept into the pantry. Under the Tokumu Kikan NERV Designated Emergency Stockpile Plan(特務機関NERV指定防災備蓄品計画), meteorologists and disaster-prevention specialists at Gehirn test candidate products to see if they meet emergency standards before they are approved as NERV-designated supplies.
Buying the NERV umeboshi survival sets online and in store
Both products are scheduled to go on sale on December 21, 2025, with “guerrilla-style” pre-orders planned from December 3 onward. Fans will be able to order through Nagaoka Shokuhin’s official online stores, including Umai Ume no Nagaokaya and the outdoor-focused shop OUTING DAYS, as well as directly at the company’s office store in Wakayama. Pricing is set at 2,590 yen (tax included) for a two-can case and 7,390 yen for a six-can case for each product line. International availability will depend on each store’s shipping policies, so overseas fans may need to use a forwarding service.
Inside the Tokumu Kikan NERV emergency stockpile initiative
The ume and rice sets are part of a broader collaboration between studio Khara and Gehirn called the Tokumu Kikan NERV Designated Emergency Stockpile Plan(特務機関NERV指定防災備蓄品計画), launched as Evangelion approaches its 30th anniversary. The project takes the in-universe idea of NERV specifying disaster supplies for Tokyo-3 and turns it into a label for carefully vetted real-world gear, from food to other emergency goods.
For Evangelion fans, that means you can line up EVA figures on your shelf and NERV-branded umeboshi in your cupboard—and know that the latter is intended to help in an actual blackout or evacuation. If you have ever thought about starting an emergency kit but never got around to it, this collaboration might be the most anime way to finally begin: pick a box, stock it, and let NERV oversee at least part of your earthquake plan.
